David Howell & Company: 200-Inch Disk Earrings, Amber
These terrific earrings are based on the 200-inch disk at The Corning Museum of Glass, which was cast in 1934 for the Hale Telescope at Mount Palomar in Southern California. The museum's example is the first disk, which failed during the casting process. It is 26 inches thick and weighs 20 tons. The second, successful, cast disk is still used at Mount Palomar.
