Adopt a Glass Pet Day

Catherine Labonte Making Glass

Saturday, September 1

      Signings and Adoptions: 1-4PM
      Hot Glass Demonstration: 6PM

Join us at The Corning Museum of Glass on September 1, as artist Catherine Labonte hosts Adopt-a-Glass-Pet Day in The Shops. Labonte will be joined by representatives from the Chemung County SPCA who will be on hand to talk about pet adoption from 1-4PM in The Shops.

Known for her curiously cute and thoroughly whimsical glass animal creations, Labonte will be on hand to sign "birth certificates" for all of the glass animals "adopted" during the event. In addition, she will draw a picture of each animal and sign the piece with a name chosen by the adoptive parent.

Complete your day by seeing Labonte work as a guest artist, along with our Hot Glass Demos Team, in a narrated demonstration in the Amphitheater Hot Shop.

You can purchase any Catherine Labonte glass animal online and Catherine will hand sign the "birth certificate" and personalize each glass pet with the name of your choosing. These pieces will be held until September 1 and will be shipped after the event. Contact us for more details.

Iittala Comes to The Corning Museum of Glass

2017 Kiikkuri
    2017 Kiikkuri

Thursday, October 18 – Sunday, October 21

The Corning Museum of Glass is excited to host guest glassmakers Helena Welling and Juha Saarikko for Imagination to Creation: Oiva’s Birds. Both gaffers are visiting from the Iittala factory in Finland for a celebration of renowned designer Oiva Toikka’s glass birds. They will be demoing at the Studio at CMoG October 18-21.

Since the first birds entered production in 1972, Birds by Toikka is an international institution offering collectors and enthusiasts hundreds of stunning objects to acquire. When asked about his fascination with birds, Oiva Toikka always answers that the birds' fluid form is ideally suited to representation in glass.

Join us for the unique opportunity to watch as gaffers Helena Welling and Juha Saarikko produce Oiva Toikka’s famed bird designs in The Corning Musuem of Glass, Studio Hot Shop.

As part of the event the glass blowers will be taking advance requests for birds that you would like to see made. After the event is concluded the birds will become available onsite and then online.

If you are interested in signing up to receive notices about this event please contact Meghan Bunnell.
