Paul J. Stankard: White March Gentian Paperweight
This paperweight by Paul J. Stankard was made in 1973 during his early years as a studio artist. It features a stunning White March Gentian set against a dark, rich background.
Paul J. Stankard, who has been a fulltime studio artist since 1972, says he has been challenged by the goal of advancing the floral paperweight tradition. By engaging in the flameworking and coldworking process, he says, he has invented ways to express the seen and unseen beauty of nature. He seeks to integrate mysticism with botanical realism, giving the glass organic credibility.
