Corning Museum of Glass: Lady Mary Hand Mirror
This small hand mirror accompanies the exhibit In Sparkling Company: Glass and the Costs of Social Life in Britain During the 1700s.
Mary Little, later Lady Carr. Thomas Gainsborough, England about 1765. Mary Little was 23 years old when she was painted by Gainsborough, with a glittering glass ornament in her hair. Her new husband was a textile merchant and she is dressed in the sumptuous silks on which he built his fortune. Yale Center for British Art. Bequest of Mrs. Harry Payne Bingham.
